Mt Collins Shelter to Gatlinburg, TN (6/13/14 - Mile 206.8)

My one picture from today, and I'm looking a bit grizzly.

Today was a much better day than yesterday, though my mileage was much less. But, oh, my God it was a great day! Jeff got here and got me off the trail so I could dry out and feel somewhat human again. My disposition has improved now that I'm not shivering and wet with shoes that squish as I walk.

When I got off the trail and was waiting for Jeff, I walked down to Indian Gap, and then back up to Clingman's Dome. I only made it about 5 miles in the journey before one of the volunteer park rangers picked me up and took me to Clingman's Dome Visitor's Center. Once we got there, he let me borrow his phone, Verizon (quick note from several people in Notth Carolina--if you want to talk on the cell phone in North Carolina, you'd better have Verizon) to call Jeff to let him know where I was and what was going on. Then the volunteer ranger gave me a pack of Oreo cookies. I never knew Oreo cookies tasted so good!

Jeff was only a couple of hours out, so I hung around the visitor's center waiting on him. I bought some stickers and a new pen, since mine decided to die. Once Jeff got here, he brought me to a nice hotel for the night, I took him out for dinner, the he took me to each my clothes--and subsequently dry my shoes.   We grabbed some beer and the. Headed back towards the hotel.  I had wanted to stop at the Nantahala Outdoor Center to look for a Rite-in-the-Rain pocket journal, so Jeff humored me and stopped there. They had some in stock so I bought two to make sure I had them. Then we came back to fhe hotel and just talked about things for a while. Now, we're headed to bed. Breakfast in the mornjng then Jeff drops me off at the trail and then heads home. All I have to say is Jeff is one of the best friends I have and I really appreciate everything he does for me. Thanks, Jeff! You are awesome!!!!

All right, I need sleep, then back on the trail!

Dona nobis pacem...
